Gujarat is a big state with over 6 crore people, and about half of them own vehicles. To manage transport services and vehicle-related work, Gujarat has 38 RTO offices. These RTOs keep a full record of all registered vehicles in the state and follow the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act. Their main job is to make sure people follow traffic and vehicle rules. Gujarat has also made a website (rtogujarat.com) where people can use RTO services online easily.
As per the Motor Vehicles Act, every state in India must have an RTO office. In Gujarat, the RTO is part of the Motor Vehicles Department and handles all vehicle-related work. It gives registration certificates, conducts driving tests, issues driving licences and permits, collects road tax and fines, and looks after public transport in the state. The Gujarat RTO follows the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
